The aim of the course is to provide students with an in-depth and critical understanding of European rules on company law, trademark law, and competition law, as well as an introduction to the Banking Union, the Capital Markets Union, and European regulations on sustainable growth. Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to explain the key concepts underlying European economic law and understand the policy challenges related to the harmonization of company law, the regulation of European companies, as well as European competition and trademark law. No specific legal or economic background is required.
Given the nature of the course, attendance is highly recommended.
As part of the course, innovative teaching activities will be implemented, including the flipped classroom approach and participation in the Beyond Business and Legal Game. In this initiative, students will form legal consulting teams together with students from a foreign university, allowing them to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in the course subjects.
Participation in these activities will be taken into account for the final assessment (50% for the flipped classroom and 50% for the participation in the Business and Legal Game).
The course aims to equip students with the skills necessary to conduct a critical analysis of the topics discussed in class. To this end, students will be exposed to the perspectives of practitioners and professors from various European universities. This approach will highlight real-world challenges and provide valuable insights for their career paths.
Students will be required to engage with lengthy and complex cases from the EU Commission in relevant fields, develop familiarity with fundamental business law concepts, and cultivate the ability to present arguments and plead effectively in public. Critical thinking is strongly encouraged throughout the course.
